Influence of western culture in India

Western culture is also equated with western civilization, western lifestyle or European civilization. It is a term broadly used to refer to ethical value, social norms, belief systems, traditional customs, specific art, political system, technologies, etc. that have an origin in the western part of the world.

Western civilization has a history before AD 500, which describes the human culture beginning in Ancient Greece that is spreading westwards; it has roots back to Rome and the Western Mediterranean.

The concept of westernization meaning the adoption of western culture comes when non-western societies come under the influence of the west by adopting its language, diet, technology, clothing, alphabet, religion, philosophy, values, lifestyle, etc.

This concept has a more significant impact on Indian culture and society as people in India get influenced by western civilization. There could be multiple reasons like fascination, dreamy autonomy, etc., all these attract people as their culture and civilization are quite advanced.

They have also brought an enormous change in art, medicine, and technology to our place; such an influencing factor proves westernization to be a better option for the adoption.

In India, the concept of westernization can be traced in almost every field, from clothing to technology to thoughts etc.

The primary modifications that can be seen are:

Clothing - People in India have adopted western clothes in their daily life

Technology - People have got up with new and advanced technologies

Thoughts - The people are also borrowing thoughts because of which people have leftover their old narrow ideas.

Changes in belief - The ones influenced by the opinions of western culture have also brought the usage of the adopted beliefs in their lives.

Lifestyle - Adoption of so many western stuff has changed the lifestyle of the people. Adoptions can be seen in different parts of the country, out of which some turn out to be decent ones, whereas some become destructive as per the Indian culture.

Lack of interest in Indian clothing - People have lost interest in their traditional clothes and are more attracted to western outfits.

Migration - The impact of western culture seems so convincing to Indians that people are migrating to western countries because of which India is losing the power and excellence of its youth.

Advanced thoughts and beliefs - Such adoptions have become poisonous as people forget their own culture.

Unhealthy food - Western food is quite harmful as it contains too much fat and causes obesity.

Materialistic - People have become very greedy, which isn't right.

Individualistic - Some people have become individualistic because of which they only.think of themselves and not others.

Thus, it can be said that westernization has both, it's advantages as well as disadvantages in the Indian society.

So, it's good to adopt westernization to some extent, but excessive adoption of it can cause harm to us as well as to the country and its culture.

Therefore, it's our responsibility to take up steps to preserve our tradition and culture instead of getting influenced by western civilization.

" Cherish your own civilization and not westernization".
