Corona viruses are a family of viruses that range from the common cold to MERS corona virus. Corona viruses are circulating in animals and some of these coronaviruses have the capability of transmitting between animals and humans. The COVID-19 virus affects millions of people around the globe in different ways.
Even before COVID-19 hit, 113 million people on the earth were already battling severe food insecurity thanks to pre-existing shocks or crises. The overwhelming majority of these people sleep in the rural areas, and depend upon agricultural production, seasonal jobs in agriculture, fishing, or pastoralism. The risks of sudden loss of income or access to social support have consequences that are difficult to estimate and constitute a challenge in identifying all those that might become vulnerable. Certainly, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, vulnerable groups aren't only elderly people, those with unhealthiness and comorbidities, or homeless or underhoused people, but also people from a gradient of socioeconomic groups which may struggle to cope financially, mentally, or physically with the crisis.
About thousand families live in Mandi Gaon. The majority of them are daily wage workers. The Livelihood of the daily wage workers have been struck hard due to the Pandemic. Tare Zameen Foundation a non – profit organization, decided to support these daily wage workers by providing Relief kits worth Rs.550 each. The Kit consists of Atta, pulses, rice, oil and other basic necessities. These kits will help them in supporting their needs for about 10 days. About 82 of such kits were distributed to 82 families who were the most vulnerable and in need. The work done is just a tiny drop compared to the ocean of need. There are still an estimated amount of 500 – 700 kits needed.
