Politicizing and Mocking the Poor

Covid-19, along with being a threat to the society, has highlighted the major loopholes in the system of government, the condition, and status of the poor and the health and medical services of the nation. It has emerged as a pandemic which has brought to a halt, the entire world, with its incomprehensible threat. Everyone around the world is going through these difficult times. But the poor and needy are the most badly affected part of the society in these strenuous times. The entire world has bent its knees in front of this pandemic, and the poor and the downtrodden are losing their lives like anything. While some poor people are committing suicide in the absence of a way of earning their daily bread, the others are dying with hunger, in accidents, by the pandemic or by some or the other reason, at large.

During the nationwide lockdown, we are all compelled to sit inside our homes and keep safe. The offices and companies have asked their employees to meet the daily targets of the company by working from home whereas the industries and factories have totally shut their operations close amid the lockdown, because of the impossibility of asking their workers to work from home. The workers or the laborers who used to earn their daily bread by working in these small or large scale factories and industries are running out of work and a way to earn daily bread for themselves and for their family. In the wake of the pandemic, it has been clearly observed that poverty is a major problem in India. Lakhs of poor and below poverty line citizens of the country have to face daily challenges in their life just to survive. While the rich are getting richer day-by-day, the poor are getting poorer consistently. A large part of the society ignores to be a part of their daily hustle and to somehow help them and decrease their agony. There are only a few people and organizations which truly work for the welfare of these people. This condition of the poor, as mentioned above, is unveiled during then pandemic. When the nation is busy trying to mark themselves safe from the transmission of the virus by being inside their homes, the poor people are troubled with thoughts like what will they and their children eat for survival, where will they stay and how will they manage to protect their lives from mishaps around.

The government has also been busy in politicizing over the situation and making a mockery of the downtrodden. There have been several instances where the government has chosen to bring these innocent needy people under the ambit of their dirty politics and made a mockery of their distress. While the government has left no stones unturned in ridiculing the poor, the people also have not been away in doing like activities. The same below-par person and his development which had once been a part of some pre-election manifesto, has been a joke to the government and the people.

This poses a serious question on the system of government and the ethics and values they are supposed to live by and what they are actually doing. The PREAMBLE to the Constitution of India claims equality to all the citizens of India but the situation, every now and then, has revealed that the situation is not as same as that guaranteed by the Constitution of India. The nationalism in the nation is mocked by the sole idea of mocking the poor in the country. It is, however, not a deed too wrong to believe that it is no less than committing a sin to be born in a poor family and to suffer throughout life.
