Effects of lockdown on differently-abled people

The COVID-19 pandemic is an unpleasant yet historical event in which we all are currently living. It has spread throughout the world at an alarming rate and is also not showing many culmination signs. Even in such a distressing situation, by looking at the positive aspects of this pandemic, we would surmount such difficult times.

But what about those who face hardships even in everyday situations, those whose lives are filled with ups and downs which we people can never understand until and unless we have been a part of their journey; those are the differently-abled people.

Specially-abled people try to live their lives to the fullest, but some limitations come in their way one after the other. One of the limitations that have currently affected their lives is the forced lockdown imposed on India'sIndia's people from March 24th, 2020.

These special people constitute about 37.5% of the world and about 2.2% of India'sIndia's population. They were the most affected as the result of this forced lockdown. In such stressful conditions, every person was frustrated, and more than them were these special people.

The social workers who worked for their well-being and were able to bring back a little joy in their lives could not reach them because of the lockdown. This might have impacted them a lot and made them feel more lonely and isolated. There are various schools for these specially-abled people where they learn the basic needs of life to create a better future. But due to the closure of all schools, these bright minds got affected.

Now considering the phases of unlocks. The most important thing that impacted them was the reopening of various institutions, even when the most important means of transport, the metro, was shut down. Taking into account, the people who cannot speak or hear were affected by this the most. The cease that was put on the metro impacted them as they might have felt unsafe taking a cab alone.

Secondly, those who had difficulty hearing understood what their colleagues had to say mainly by lip-reading as all do not understand sign language, but as the masks became an essential component of their day-to-day lives, it made them difficult to understand what others wanted to say.

Even after so many difficulties, these brave people can make their lives worth living. Every person in the world should learn from their hardships and hard work of crossing all the obstacles that may come in their paths to live a life that they desire for. In a difficult time like this, one should never forget their fundamental values: compassion, kindness, and generosity. By making others' lives better, one can live a long and satisfying life.
