Irregularities in Menstrual cycles during Lockdow

Irregularities in Menstrual Cycle

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has put various lives in danger and made people anticipate all the negatives that are going on in their lives. But amidst this deadly disease, women all across the globe are suffering from a somewhat different problem which is irregular menstruation commonly known as irregular periods.

Focusing on this problem, various studies are being conducted by multiple renowned gynaecologists. In one study, it was revealed that about 65% of the women under review were experiencing disrupted menstrual cycles which involved early onset or late onset of periods, lack of periods and even irresistible abdominal cramps.

It was also revealed that every one out of three women had reached out to their gynaecologists stating the problem of irregular periods during the Lockdown. So no need to worry if you are facing the same problem, you are not alone.

Now the thing to ponder upon is why so many women all together are facing such problems. The main reason behind it is the COVID-19 Lockdown. The lockdown had a drastic change in the lifestyle of every person. It led to the changes in the sleeping patterns, diets followed by people, regular exercise schedules, and most importantly, the stress which the people had to go through. All these things disturbed the menstrual cycle of various women.

The constant confinement from their loved ones, friends, families, and a decline in outdoor activities which helped them to uplift their mood all got stopped in one go. Along with this, a subsequent increase in the workload as their office got shifted into a work from home environment increased their sitting hours as well as the stress that they might have been facing.

Various medical professionals have also stated that women who would have been facing menstrual problems even before the Lockdown would experience aggravated symptoms. To make it simpler, it can be explained as, if a woman would have been facing hormone-related issues but such issues would have been under control over a while, then this Lockdown might aggravate their problem. Diseases such as PCOD and PCOS can also get aggravated during this condition.

But there is always a solution present for every problem. In this situation, the answer is to take out some time and take care of yourself, calm down your body, and make it feel happier. This can be done by regular exercising which can involve skipping, engaging yourself in yoga, trying to meditate for some time so that your brain can feel relaxed and it can also decrease the stress that you might be facing. Eating healthy food will also help in overcoming such problems and in the cases of PCOS and PCOD, reducing your weight can also have a positive impact on your health.

We all are in this together, and we will all beat this together, but all we need is some patience and self-care.
