Should self-defence be a compulsory subject in schools?

Self Defence in India

When parents send their children to school, they expect the full safety of their child. Self-defence as a subject should be made compulsory in school not only for girls but for boys as well. School life can be unpredictable, and some events can lead to a lifetime of trauma, so, self-defence training should be viewed as a severe issue.

Girls being taught self defence in India

Given the situation of India and its position about the safety of women, crimes like eve-teasing and molestation are increasing every day. It is imperative to make girls self-reliant to drive them further succeed in life ad to do so, and school is the most basic and righteous place to teach them that. Self-defence training at schools will enable the students to learn and have an insight into the situation in front of them.

This is the twenty-first century, and we have to get rid of the tag people attach to the people who ask for help. When they take up self-defence, these students learn how to protect themselves and to anticipate certain situations that lead to confrontation. Apart from these appealing factors, self-defence also helps to build physical growth.

Self defence techniques

The crimes like child abuse and child trafficking are also a severe issue for our country, which exposes both young boys and girls to a dangerous world. But because of these fears and crimes, we cannot sit back at home and stop living our lives. Self-defence would prepare them for any unforeseen circumstance and can also empower them to help others in times of need.

If HRD Ministery understands the urgent need for this change in our school education system, our country will feel safer when it steps out in this harsh world. It will be a big step towards a safer nation to live in.
